We cannot rule out the lure of a dream IIT or branch that makes students go to great lengths. But have you ever wondered why you are toiling away day and night to get there? How exactly will studying at an IIT shape your future? Unless you are not sure about the answer to this question, you wouldn’t enjoy the journey, right?

To begin with, many IITians have gone places and brought great glory to the country. Whether it is the role of CEO in Google or Cabinet Ministry, IITians have seen it all.

How about starting with some motivating IITians who made it to the pinnacle of success?

  • Manohar Parrikar

This man has a glorious career graph to his credit. Having worked as the General Secretary of Mess Management Committee (MMC) for three years, he got accolades for his good job. Today, he pilots the Defence Ministry of India and has also served as the Chief Minister of Goa before that. Manohar describes himself in these humble words, “I was the one sitting by the side of the river and someone pushed me. Then I managed to swim successfully.” He was an excellent political leader during his college days, and maybe that honed his skills to become the success story he is today.

  • Sundar Pichai

It’s quite unlikely not to have heard about Sundar Pichai. This Metallurgical Engineer from IIT (Kharagpur) is the CEO of Google. What’s that got to do with ores & metal extraction? Well, after graduation he did his M.S from Stanford University in Materials Science & Engineering, which is related to Metallurgical Engineering. Later, he did an MBA from Wharton School. Notably, his first job was with Applied Materials company, which had a lot to do with material sciences. It was from there that Pichai ventured into the product management role. That’s how the education in IIT (Kharagpur) made a huge impact in his life.

  •  Varun Grover

Varun completed B.Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT(BHU). One cannot possibly have the faintest idea about where he found his calling eventually?. Okay, he won the National Award in Best Lyrics category for the song ‘Yeh moh moh ke dhaage’ from Dum Laga ke Haisha. Contrary to the common perception, IIT is not only about engineering and but also about polishing your raw talent with a multitude of extra-curricular activities. A dreamer and creative at heart, this IITian is one of the most sought-after lyricists in the industry today.

IIT will change your life forever

An IIT will transform you in unimaginable ways. Don’t we all want to be a better version of ourselves? The IIT experience develops various qualities, which will give you an edge over others. Here are a few changes an education in IIT will bring about in you.

  • If you decide to get into an IIT, you will have high chances of landing a job in one of the best companies. Of course, you have to work towards turning your dreams into reality during your college years. IITs teach students valuable skills required for managing events and boost their confidence to face the challenges posed in front of them.
  • You will become a team player. That’s something very special about any college. The countless extracurricular activities and projects that are carried out by students ensure all-round development. You learn to communicate with different kinds of people and speak the right thing at the right time. Interpersonal skills are the only difference between good employees and great employees.
  • IITians have established a very solid base in business & academics worldwide. Your years in college will help you learn the importance of networking and entrepreneurship. These life skills help students become aware of the latest technologies and become self-sufficient to create their own firms at a very young age.
  • Be it music, sports, dramatics or writing, IITs focus on your overall personality development. It’s just not focused on sharpening your tech knowledge and believes in bringing out the true potential of students. Why not bring out the artist in you and conquer the world? Who knows, you might find your calling in some beautiful phase of IIT.
  • Last but not the least, you start valuing family and friends in your life. For many students, colleges are the first time away from home, so they are scared and excited at the same time. You will miss your family and also understand how important are your friends who make your stay in the college special.

IITs provide students much more than just an academic learning. They have the power to change your life if you are willing to work hard to achieve your goals. One cannot hope for a better platform to get started on the journey towards success.
